Why Bird Netting

Why You Need Professional Bird Netting

Bird netting is the most effective method of permanently excluding birds from a defined area. Unlike spikes and wire systems that deter birds from landing on specific surfaces, netting creates a complete physical barrier that prevents all bird access.

Structural Corrosion

Pigeon guano has a pH of 3.5-4.5 and actively corrodes steel, stone, concrete, and brick. Uncontrolled bird access causes measurable, cumulative damage to your building fabric.

Health Hazards

Dried bird droppings carry over 60 transmissible diseases including histoplasmosis, psittacosis, and salmonella. Airborne spores from disturbed guano pose a serious respiratory risk.

Slip and Fall Risk

Guano on walkways, loading docks, and access routes creates significant liability exposure. A single H&S incident costs more than a year of proactive bird management.

Product Contamination

In food environments, bird ingress can trigger critical BRC findings and halt production. Zero tolerance applies to bird contamination in food manufacturing and processing.

Aesthetic Damage

Visible droppings on facades, signage, and entrances deter customers and damage brand perception. Professional netting eliminates all of these problems permanently.

Our Process

How Bird Netting Installation Works

1

Survey & Assessment

We visit your property to assess the area requiring protection, identify the bird species involved, and evaluate access requirements. For commercial properties, this includes a full risk assessment and method statement. Request your free survey.

2

Specification & Quote

We specify the correct netting grade, mesh size, and fixings for your situation. Pigeon netting uses 50mm mesh, gull netting requires 75mm, and sparrow exclusion uses 19mm. You receive a detailed, fixed-price quote within 24 hours.

3

Installation

Our technicians install the net system using stainless steel or galvanised wire rope perimeter cables, tensioned to maintain net shape. All fixings are specified for your building material. We hold IPAF and PASMA qualifications for safe working at height.

4

Aftercare & Monitoring

All netting installations come with our 10-year guarantee covering materials and workmanship. For commercial clients, we offer maintenance contracts with scheduled inspection visits, cleaning, and repair.

Common Questions

Bird Netting FAQs

Professional-grade bird netting is UV-stabilised and designed to last 10-15 years with proper maintenance. Our installations come with a 10-year guarantee covering materials and workmanship.
Yes. We use conservation-grade fixings and methods appropriate for heritage and listed buildings. Depending on the building's listed status, planning consent or listed building consent may be required. We advise on this during the survey.
Modern bird netting is available in black, stone, and translucent finishes. When correctly specified and installed, netting is virtually invisible from ground level. We select the colour that best matches your building to minimise visual impact.
Netting should be inspected annually for damage from UV degradation, storm debris, or accidental contact. We offer maintenance contracts for commercial clients. Domestic netting typically requires only periodic visual checks.
A properly installed net with correctly specified mesh size prevents bird entry entirely. Our installation process includes checking for any existing birds or nests in the area before sealing the net. All work complies with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 — we never seal birds inside a netted area.
