Breeding & Behaviour
Pigeons breed year-round — unlike most UK birds, they are not restricted to a single nesting season. A single breeding pair can produce up to 12 squabs annually. Their diet consists primarily of seeds, grain, and food waste, making urban centres with restaurants and food outlets ideal habitats.
Pigeons are gregarious roosters. A pair can become a colony of 50 or more birds within two breeding seasons if left unchecked. Legal Position
Feral pigeons can be controlled under General Licence GL40 issued by Natural England. Physical proofing methods — netting, spikes, wire, and mesh guards — do not require any licence as they simply exclude birds from areas without harming them. All our methods are humane and fully compliant with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We do not use poisons, traps, or any lethal methods.
